TOGETHER AGAINST GRAFFITI

A COMMUNITY BASEDĀ  GROUP

Every morning when we wake up there are changes in our world. Some are good and some are very troubling and potenially life changing.

Four years ago I knew two things about graffiti, that it was all gang related and that it was ugly. I was right it was ugly but I was wrong about it being all gang related. Studies show that only 10% of all graffiti is gang related, the rest is done by kids of every race and social group from big cities to small towns. Armed with this information I started on a quest to rid my community of this blight.

TOGETHER AGAINST GRAFFITI (TAG) started as a local group aimed at bringing all the stake holders together to fight the graffiti. We found that police and city workers could not combat the problem without the help of citizens. Now with the down turn in the economy it is more true then ever.

Most events in childrens lives start at home, a childs first words, first steps, first dance, first I Love You. There is another alarming first that starts in many homes, a childs first graffiti tag. Studies show that taggers usually first start "tagging" in their own bedrooms. What most parents might see as a doodle is really the blueprint for trouble. These TROUBLING SIGNS are usually overlooked because of the lack of information available for parents.

The good news is that there is hope. With the help of everyone working together, public officials, police, city workers, home owners associations, businesses, schools, fath based groups, civic groups, the media and citizens we can win the fight against graffiti. It is a battle that we must win. For the future of our communities and our youth is at stake.

You can join us in the fight by becoming a member of TOGETHER AGAINST GRAFFITI. It is free to join. We are here to help you make your community graffiti free.
